Trump Claims Iran Is ‘No Longer a Threat’ After Military Op, Blasts NATO

Date:

President Donald Trump declared Iran no longer a threat on Tuesday following the conclusion of US-Israel military operations, while simultaneously blasting NATO allies for refusing to take part in the campaign. He posted his assessment on Truth Social and reinforced it during remarks at the Oval Office. Trump called NATO’s decision to stay on the sidelines a “foolish mistake” and described himself as “disappointed.”

Trump has long maintained that Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons represents an existential threat to American allies and regional stability. He has used that framing to justify aggressive diplomatic and military postures toward Tehran. Tuesday’s declaration that Iran is no longer a threat represents the culmination of that approach, at least in his telling.

The President detailed what he described as decisive military achievements, including the destruction of Iran’s navy, air force, radar systems, and anti-aircraft capabilities. He also claimed that Iranian leadership had been eliminated at virtually every significant level. Together, he argued, these outcomes had permanently removed Iran’s ability to threaten the Middle East or the world.

If accurate, these claims would represent a transformative moment in the history of US-Iran relations and Middle Eastern security. The elimination of Iran’s military and leadership infrastructure would create new opportunities and challenges across the region. Trump presented these results as proof of what American and Israeli military power can achieve without multilateral consensus.

For NATO, the episode raises urgent questions about the alliance’s relevance in the current geopolitical environment. Allies will need to respond carefully, balancing the need to defend their decisions with the desire to maintain a workable relationship with Washington. The weeks ahead will be critical in shaping that response.
