Vietnam and Malaysia are intensifying their defence collaboration, aiming to bolster bilateral relations and enhance regional stability. This development comes as Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, engaged in discussions in Hanoi with Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai. During these talks, Giang commended the ambassador for his significant contributions to enhancing the cooperation between the two nations.
General Giang emphasized the advancements made in their defence relationship, which includes consistent military exchanges, policy dialogues, joint training initiatives, and cooperation at both international and multilateral forums. He underscored the importance of continuing to implement existing agreements and urged for increased interaction through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation mechanisms.
In a forward-looking gesture, Giang extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and companies to join the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, set to take place in Hanoi. This invitation is part of Vietnam’s strategy to deepen defence ties and foster collaboration with regional partners.
Reflecting on his tenure, Ambassador Dato’ Tan Yang Thai expressed gratitude towards Vietnam’s defence ministry and military for their support during his time in office. He conveyed optimism that the defence relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia would continue to flourish, contributing positively to peace and prosperity within the region.
