The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) has revealed that its International Certificate in Operational Risk Management (ICORM) and three other professional risk management programs have qualified for funding by HRD Corp in Malaysia. This development marks an important step in enhancing the accessibility of globally recognized risk management education for Malaysian professionals. As organizations grapple with increasing digital transformation, artificial intelligence, regulatory compliance, and governance challenges, this initiative aims to bolster the skills of Malaysian employers and professionals in enterprise risk management.
This move aligns with Malaysia’s workforce development goals, addressing the persistent skills shortages in risk management roles. By offering flexible, workplace-focused training, IRM aims to equip employers with the tools necessary for better decision-making and to enhance organizational resilience. The HRD Corp-funded courses available include Managing AI Risks in the Workplace, Financial Services Risk Management, and Managing Organisational Risks, in addition to the International Certificate in Operational Risk Management (ICORM). These programs cover a range of topics, from governance and ethical concerns in AI to risk management practices in financial services, and the foundational principles of enterprise risk management.
IRM Asia, the regional branch of the organization and a registered HRD Corp training provider, noted that eligible Malaysian employers could claim funding for these approved programs. This opportunity allows businesses to invest in internationally recognized professional qualifications, further strengthening their operational capabilities. The programs are designed to address various aspects of risk management, including operational risk frameworks, controls, monitoring, reporting, risk culture, and event management.
The initiative is a component of IRM’s broader strategy to expand professional risk management education throughout the ASEAN region. By supporting organizations in developing long-term risk management capabilities, IRM seeks to build a more resilient and informed workforce. As the demand for skilled risk management professionals continues to rise, such educational endeavors are critical in preparing organizations to navigate the increasingly complex landscape of contemporary business risks.
