Flooding Forces Thousands to Evacuate Across Cambodian Provinces

Date:

Severe flooding, caused by relentless heavy rainfall, has disrupted the lives of over 44,800 families across 10 provinces in Cambodia. The adverse weather conditions have forced approximately 3,700 households to evacuate their homes in search of safer ground.

The provinces of Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, and Siem Reap are among the most severely impacted areas. Rising floodwaters have affected over 40,000 homes and nearly 50,000 hectares of rice fields, causing significant damage and displacement.

The flooding is primarily attributed to the continuous heavy rainfall that has plagued the region since September 24. This deluge has been accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, with weather authorities predicting that these harsh conditions will persist through September 30.

Local authorities are actively responding to the crisis, working to provide aid and support to the displaced families and mitigate further damage to properties and agricultural lands. The situation remains challenging as communities brace for ongoing adverse weather conditions.
