In a concerted effort to bolster security and public order, Vietnam and Cambodia have committed to enhancing their collaborative efforts along their shared border. Police forces from Vietnam’s Tây Ninh Province and Cambodia’s Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, and Tboung Khmum provinces convened in Tây Ninh on Friday to evaluate their current cooperation and strategize on tackling cross-border crime more effectively.
The meeting underscored the significance of intensified collaboration to combat various criminal activities such as drug and human trafficking, smuggling, money laundering, and online fraud. The provincial police forces have been actively exchanging information and coordinating operations to address these transnational challenges.
Officials at the conference highlighted the necessity of direct communication and frequent meetings, which are crucial for the swift exchange of information and quick resolution of cases involving criminal activities across borders. The collaboration aims to enhance patrols and surveillance of border trails and crossings to thwart illegal movements that could enable organized crime.
In addition, both sides agreed to expand their cooperation to confront threats such as terrorism, arms trafficking, and high-tech crime, while remaining agile to tackle emerging non-traditional security issues. This comprehensive approach reflects the growing need for a united front against a broad spectrum of security challenges in the region.
The conference concluded with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation, which formalizes the commitment of both countries to strengthen their crime prevention strategies and maintain the security and public order in their border regions.
